Location: Miles Davis Main Auditorium

The foundations of global trade are being rewritten. Geopolitical tensions, economic nationalism, industrial policy, and shifting alliances are reshaping markets, supply chains, and the flow of goods around the world. Assumptions that underpinned decades of globalisation can no longer be taken for granted.

In this opening keynote, Prof. Simon Evenett, one of the world’s leading experts on trade and geopolitics, will explore what these changes mean for businesses operating in an increasingly fragmented world. Drawing on the latest global developments, he will examine the forces reshaping international trade and offer insights into how leaders can navigate uncertainty, build resilience, and position their organisations for success in an era where business as usual no longer applies.

Keynote Speaker:
Prof. Simon Evenett, Professor of Geopolitics and Strategy, IMD

Panel 1 – Bridging Perspectives: Public and Private Leadership in Global Trade

Global trade is entering a period of profound transformation. Geopolitical tensions, shifting alliances, regulatory divergence, and growing demands for sustainability are reshaping how markets operate and how supply chains connect producers, consumers, and economies.

Bringing together senior leaders from governments, international organisations, and the private sector, this high-level dialogue will explore how public and private actors can work together to navigate an increasingly complex global landscape. The discussion will examine where interests align, where tensions exist, and what forms of leadership, cooperation, and innovation are needed to maintain open, resilient, and inclusive trade systems.

At a time when fragmentation often dominates the headlines, can collaboration still deliver meaningful progress—and what role should public and private leaders play in shaping the future of global trade?

Bringing together senior leaders from across the coffee value chain, this flagship CEO dialogue will explore how businesses are navigating unprecedented change while remaining competitive, resilient, and future-focused. The discussion will examine the strategic decisions leaders are making today—from investment and innovation to sustainability and market development—and how they are balancing commercial performance with growing expectations around accountability and responsibility.

Panel 6 – Beyond Compliance: Are We Delivering on Human Rights Commitments?

Location: Miles Davis Main Auditorium

Human rights due diligence has become a business and regulatory expectation across global supply chains. Yet as companies invest increasing resources into policies, reporting, and risk management systems, a fundamental question remains: are these efforts delivering meaningful improvements in people’s lives? Are we creating real change, or simply becoming better at demonstrating compliance?

Bringing together leaders from industry, government, and civil society, this panel will explore how the coffee sector can move beyond compliance and focus on impact. The discussion will examine what is working in practice, where gaps remain, and how successful initiatives can evolve from isolated pilot projects into scalable approaches that deliver lasting change.

Ultimately, the panel will ask what it takes to turn shared commitments into measurable progress for the people and communities at the heart of the coffee value chain.

Speakers:
  • Ambassador Valérie Berset Bircher, Ambassador, Head of International Labour Affairs, SECO

SSCP – Seminar Session: How Public Private Partnerships Unlock Opportunities at Origin

Location: Agora 5 Seminar Room

Public-private partnerships are increasingly heralded as the pathway to sustainable development in global supply chains. The Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform (SSCP) brings together companies, government, civil society and research to align on shared sustainability challenges, including at origin. Yet translating this vision into practice—where these partnerships actually deliver meaningful impact—remains a formidable challenge. How do these collaborations move beyond good intentions? And what does meaningful partnership look like when it works?

This intimate roundtable breakfast showcases exactly how. Bringing together project leaders with diverse partnership approaches in the coffee sector, participants will rotate through direct conversations with three public-private partnerships funded by the Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform and SECO. You will encounter collaboration as it actually happens on the ground through discussions with the following project teams:

  • Safeguarding Climate and Families: Securing a Sustainable Future for Coffee Farming in Vietnam’s Central Highlands – presented by Dieu Chi Nguyen, Project Manager, and Lionel Giron, Regional Coordinator Nepal, Bhutan and Vietnam & URBAN Co-lead, Helvetas

  • Alianza Café Colombia: Business Collaboration for Sustainability – presented by Elizabeth Goodwin, Corporate Partnerships Manager, Swisscontact

  • Safeguarding Futures: A Community-Based Child Rights Coalition for Sustainable Coffee in Mexico – presented by Blerta Spahiu, Head of Child Protection, Terre des Hommes

10:20 – 11:20

Panel 7 – EUDR in Practice: Building Systems, Not Silos

Location: Miles Davis Main Auditorium

As EUDR moves from policy to implementation, the challenge is no longer simply compliance—it is coordination. Across the coffee sector, companies, governments, and solution providers have invested heavily in tools, data, and traceability systems. Yet fragmentation, inconsistent risk assessments, and uneven adoption continue to create uncertainty and complexity.

This panel will explore what it will take to move from fragmented approaches to practical, scalable implementation. Bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, producing-country representatives, and technical experts, the discussion will examine how the sector can build greater alignment around data, risk assessment, and implementation models that work for both companies and producing countries.

At the heart of the conversation lies a critical question: how do we create systems that are trusted, interoperable, and inclusive—rather than a patchwork of competing solutions? From shared reference data and post-competitive collaboration to smallholder inclusion and regulatory realism, the panel will explore how EUDR can become a catalyst for stronger and more connected supply chains rather than another source of fragmentation.

Speakers:
  • Eileen Gordon Laity, Secretary General, European Coffee Federation (ECF)
  • Marcos Antonio Matos, CEO, Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé)
  • Zoltán Ágai, Policy Officer, INTPA F3 – Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries, European Commission, DG INTPA
  • Toby Brandon, Chief Operating Officer, ICE Benchmark Administration
Moderator and co-moderator:
  • Dean Sanders, Founder & Director, Etymos
  • Hannelore Beerlandt, Head of Operations, International Coffee Organization (ICO)
10:15 – 11:15

GCP – Seminar Session: From Talking the Talk to Walking the Walk: What Will It Take to Make Collective Action Work at Scale

Location: Agora 5 Seminar Room

Collective action has been a perennial challenge for the coffee sector for decades — yet it still struggles to move beyond isolated pilots at origin to enabling broader impact. As the sector navigates rapidly evolving geopolitical shifts, regulatory pressures, and market realignment, the question is no longer whether collective action is valuable, but why it hasn’t materialized at scale, and what needs to change.

Join the Global Coffee Platform (GCP), representatives from national public-private platforms in Brazil and Uganda, and global industry leaders to confront this gap head-on. The conversation will examine the structural foundations required for coordination — including Country Platforms — and what buy-in, roles, and incentives are needed from private and public actors to de-risk the transition to a stronger, more resilient coffee sector for all.

Drawing lessons and best practices from a decade of coordinating collective responses at the policy, market and community levels, the panel will compare experiences across regions and market actors to ask: what will it actually take to overcome the barriers that have kept collective action from reaching scale?

Speaker:
  • Annette Pensel, Executive Director, Global Coffee Platform (GCP)

11:30 – 12:30

Panel 8 – Sourcing with Purpose: The Role of Procurement in Creating Long-Term Value

Location: Miles Davis Main Auditorium

Procurement sits at the intersection of ambition and reality—where sustainability commitments meet the commercial decisions that shape how coffee is sourced, traded, and valued. As expectations around farmer livelihoods, human rights, and environmental resilience continue to grow, procurement teams are increasingly being asked to balance commercial performance with broader sustainability objectives.

This panel will explore the evolving role of procurement in the coffee sector and the influence sourcing decisions can have on outcomes across the value chain. Bringing together perspectives from business, origin, finance, and civil society, the discussion will examine how responsible sourcing is being integrated into commercial decision-making, what challenges remain, and how market incentives, pricing, and risk management shape outcomes on the ground.

Rather than focusing on what individual companies can achieve alone, the panel will consider how procurement fits within the wider system—and what kinds of partnerships, incentives, and approaches are needed to translate shared ambition into meaningful and scalable progress at sector level.

Speakers:
  • Andres Berron, Managing Director & Vice President, Coffee & Cocoa, Starbucks Coffee Trading Company
  • Justin Archer, Head of Sustainability, Sucafina
  • Germán Alberto Bahamón Jaramillo, General Manager, Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (FNC)
  • Annette Pensel, Executive Director, Global Coffee Platform (GCP)
  • Pratyush Singh, Senior Vice President, Coffee, ofi
Moderator:
  • Dean Sanders, Founder & Director, Etymos
11:30 – 12:30

ECF – Seminar Session:Shaping Europe’s Coffee Regulatory Agenda

Location: Agora 5 Seminar Room

The European Coffee Federation brings together the companies and national associations shaping Europe’s coffee sector, with Brussels at the centre of our work, where much of the legislation affecting coffee is conceived, negotiated and implemented. The scale of the sector makes that engagement increasingly important: new research by Europe Economics shows that coffee supports around 1.5 million direct full-time equivalent jobs and generates €84.4 billion in direct GVA across the EU27. This session will introduce ECF’s role in representing and connecting the coffee value chain and provide a practical overview of the regulatory agenda we are navigating, including EUDR, the Forced Labour Regulation, pesticides and evolving MRL policy, Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition, and packaging under PPWR, while showing how ECF helps members anticipate, understand and influence what comes next.

Panel 9 – The Demand Map: Global Consumer Shifts and What They Mean for the Future of the Global Green Coffee Trade

Location: Miles Davis Main Auditorium

The global demand landscape for coffee is changing rapidly. New consumption markets are emerging, consumer preferences are evolving, and broader shifts in demographics, lifestyles, health, and sustainability are reshaping how and why people consume coffee. At the same time, developments in financial markets, agricultural commodities, and global trade flows are influencing prices, investment decisions, and commercial strategy.

Bringing together experts in market intelligence, consumer research, finance, trade, and supply, this panel will explore where future demand growth is likely to come from and what it means for the global green coffee trade. From the rise of Asia to changing consumption patterns in traditional markets and the growing popularity of coffee-adjacent beverages, the discussion will examine the trends shaping the next generation of consumers—and whether the supply side is ready to respond.

As demand evolves, how must the supply side respond? What opportunities and risks do these shifts create for the global coffee sector in the decade ahead?

Welcome to Montreux
Your destination guide – October 2026

The 17th SCTA Forum & Dinner takes place in Montreux for the first time — a city long celebrated for creativity, dialogue and international exchange. Set on the shores of Lake Geneva and framed by the Alps, it is one of Switzerland’s most inspiring destinations. Early October is a particularly beautiful time to visit: the vineyards turn gold, the air is crisp, and the pace is unhurried.

Autumn in Montreux Riviera

October is harvest season — vineyards glow amber above the lake, local markets fill with regional produce, and the landscape is at its most dramatic. Whether you’re walking the Lavaux terraces, tasting new-vintage wine, or simply sitting on a lakeside terrace, the Montreux Riviera in autumn is not easily forgotten.

Lavaux — UNESCO World Heritage Vineyard Terraces
A short journey west of Montreux, the Lavaux terraces are among the most spectacular landscapes in Switzerland and one of only a handful of cultural wine landscapes recognised by UNESCO. Rows of vines cascade down steep hillsides toward the lake, framed by the Alps and the Château de Chillon below. October brings the harvest — an exceptional time to walk the trails, pause at a winemaker’s cellar, and taste the local Chasselas.
