SCTA Next Gen Sustainability contest.


Who can apply to the contest ?

Working on the future of coffee goes beyond borders and ages. The contest is open to all.
We welcome all passionate coffee lovers to share their unique sustainability initiatives.

What should the project or initiatives focus on?

Examples of such initiatives could cover but are not limited to the fields of regenerative agriculture, next generation of farmers, origin diversification, value addition, technology.

What is the prize of the contest?

At present, the total prize money is CHF 21 000
We invite companies to contribute to this prize money through sponsorship therefore, we expect the total prize money to increase.

Sustainability is about participating, and market players coming together to try and solve the issues of the future.

The coffee industry is no different and we as the Next Gen Council invite companies to contribute to this prize money pot through a sponsorship.

The more money we receive the higher the likelihood of the winner’s project to succeed it.

How can I/we apply?

Application for the SCTA Next Gen Sustainability Contest is now closed.

Please submit your application using this form to nextgen@sc-ta.ch.
The form should not exceed 5 pages.
In the document you should describe the background of the initiative, implementation plan with objectives and outcomes, short description of the activities, why it can be scaled up and the investment to date and/or required investment. 

What is the deadline?

Submissions will be accepted until the 1st of August 2023.

What happens after I/we apply?

Your SCTA Next Gen Council will select the top 3 initiatives. Selected initiatives will be informed latest by the 1st  September. If successful, you will then be invited to the SCTA Coffee Forum on the 21stSeptember in the morning, to present your initiative.

The presentation should be made by only 1 individual. In case you are based outside of Europe it might be challenging to organize a visa in such a short time, in that case the presentation can be done online. During and after the presentation the SCTA Coffee Forum & Dinner attendees will be invited to vote for the winner via the SCTA Connect App.

The winner will be announced the following day during the SCTA Coffee Dinner.

Will information be shared about our application?

When you join the SCTA Next Gen Sustainability Contest you automatically agree to share the data of your initiative.If available, we will invite you to share pictures or videos which can be used for communications around the contest for example email, Linkedin, SCTA website and the SCTA Connect App. Confidential information such as budget financials will not be shared publicly.

If I/we win the contest, what can we expect?

Following the SCTA Coffee Forum & Dinner the SCTA Next Gen Council will be in touch to setup a monitoring, evaluating, and reporting system. Once this is in place, the 1st installment of 50% of the prize money will be transferred. The 2nd 50% installment will be transferred after reaching key milestones that will have been mutually agreed upon.

How will the winner be selected?

The top 3 will be selected during August by the SCTA Next Gen Council.

Only on Thursday, during the SCTA Coffee Forum & Dinner attendees will be invited to vote for the winner via the SCTA Connect App – their votes will have a weight of 40% (Deadline for the votes is the end of day on Thursday, the 21st of September). The SCTA Next Gen Council and the SCTA Board will also account for 30% of the votes each. The SCTA Next Gen Council and SCTA Board will not be allowed to vote for a proposal coming from their own company or an affiliate at any point in the contest.

The winner will be announced during the SCTA Coffee Dinner event on Friday 22nd September.
